Institut Català d’Oncologia

The Lymphoma Research group EPILYMPH belongs to the Unit of Infection and Cancer, Cancer Epidemiology Research programme of the Catalan Institute of Oncology (ICO). The group has been recognized as a consolidated research team by the Catalan Government. EpiLymph research team is a multidisciplinary group of professional composed by epidemiologists, haematologists and statisticians. In the past few years, the group has focused their research in the aetiology of CLL in order to elucidate the origin of this rare disease.

Since 1998 the group has coordinated several multicentric proposals on the risk factors for lymphoma and has developed special interest in the role of common infection in the aetiology of lymphoma. The group is actively involved in the InterLymph consortium that included worldwide epidemiological projects on lymphoma and is now leading the pooled analysis of risk factors for CLL.

The group has strong links with well recognized groups outside InterLymph such as CREAL in Spain (Prof. M. Kogevinas) with the Multi case study_Spain and The Epstein-Barr Virus (EBV) Oncogenesis group, headed by Prof J.M.Middeldorp, is embedded in the Department of Pathology at VU University medical center (VUmc), Amsterdam the Netherlands.
